Liberal Studies

Michigan State University has over 160 undergraduate majors, yet, every once in a while a student can't find one to match their intellectual and professional interests.  Liberal Studies students create their own concentration by proposing and seeking approval of a specific sequence of courses designed to accomplish a stated and justified course of study in Interdisciplinary Studies in Social Science. The student, working with an IDS advisor and at least two MSU faculty, will establish a set of learning outcomes, then tailor their courses to achieve those goals.

If you would like to learn more about the Liberal Studies concentration, please contact Dr. Eddie Boucher (bouche50@msu.edu) to begin the exploration process.

If you are a senior making a major change or a late-stage transfer student to IDS, the Liberal Studies track might not be your best option, as the requirements of this track could slow your path to a timely graduation. If this is your situation, please contact the IDS advisors to discuss your options within this major.
